Scheduling Behaviors, Replacing Negativity

Was it only a year ago I started to hear

Soundbites and news clips of what I should fear?

Run to the stores, quick get your supplies

Empty shelves of basic needs were such a surprise.

Adjustments to new normal, most didn’t realize

The masks did not cover up the fear in one's eyes.

                                  Conflicting reports, theories and advice,

Exchange of opinions, sharing words not so nice.

No visits to those who are ill or alone.

Quarantine mandates: online school, work from home.

Restaurants switched to pick up, what was safe to eat?

Social distancing everywhere, churches cannot meet.

Even when not liking rules, I obey authorities

Social extroverts like me picked new priorities.

Have faith over fear, but what to put hope in?

Would knowing God’s trustworthiness keep me from worry-sin?

A friend advised I take the time to add gratitude and prayer

Put both on a calendar to always see it there.

I also scheduled Scripture study, reading and review

Consistent chats with loved ones to keep those connections, too.

It’s an active battle keeping negative thoughts at bay

I need consistent ways to push anxiety away.

Even when my feelings say give up!   This world’s a mess!

I step into God’s gracious love, and marvel I’m so blessed.

There is no fear in love, but complete love drives out fear,      (I John 4:8)
